The processing of the tea

Producing Longjing tea demands exceptional handcrafting skills, making it one of the most popular green teas in the world. From May to June, tender buds and young leaves are hand-plucked and briefly roasted in a wok. The leaves are then shaped into their characteristic flat "sword" form, giving them their distinctive appearance.

The origin of the tea

Not far from Hangzhou's West Lake, the tea fields where Longjing green tea is cultivated lie in a picturesque region. Only tea from this specific area can be called Longjing. The mild climate, abundant rainfall, and frequent fog create perfect conditions for tea cultivation. This unique region, with its rich tradition, continues to fascinate tea lovers worldwide.

Long Jing is known for its smooth and harmonious flavour. Typical characteristics include nutty and lightly roasted notes, often reminiscent of chestnut or freshly baked bread. At the same time, the tea offers a delicate sweetness and a fresh vegetal character.
The flat shape is created during processing. Freshly harvested leaves are traditionally roasted in a hot pan and gently pressed by hand, forming their characteristic “sword-like” appearance while developing subtle roasted aromas.
Yes, Long Jing tea contains caffeine because it is made from the tea plant Camellia sinensis. Like many green teas, the caffeine is often perceived as providing a gentle and balanced lift.
For Long Jing tea, water at around 80 °C is recommended. Use about 4 g of tea for 250 ml of water and steep for around 1–1.5 minutes. This gentle brewing method helps preserve the tea’s delicate flavours.
